History-Making Victory: Jamie Chadwick Becomes First Woman to Win an Indy NXT Race Since 2010
Chicago (USA), June 9 (EFE) – British driver Jamie Chadwick made history on Sunday by winning the Road America Grand Prix and becoming the first woman to win a race in the Indy NXT, the IndyCar development championship, since 2010.
Chadwick, a 26-year-old native of Bath, dominated the race aboard her Andretti Global single-seater and became the third woman to triumph in an Indy NXT race in the history of the championship. The last woman to win an Indy NXT race was her compatriot Pippa Mann, who won in Kentucky in 2010.
Prior to that, Brazilian driver Ana Beatriz triumphed in 2008 and 2009, according to IndyCar data. “I have no words. I am truly moved. We have had a great car this year and we hadn’t been able to do much. I am very happy to have held on,” said Chadwick after the race.
Chadwick started from pole position at Road America, held in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, making her the first woman to achieve this feat.
