Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse will be out of action for the next five to 10 days due to a head injury he sustained from a hit by Toronto Maple Leafs forward Ryan Reaves. The incident occurred during the second period of the game between the two teams over the weekend, which ended in a 4-3 overtime win for the Leafs.
Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch provided an update on Nurse’s condition, stating that although there was initial concern following the hit, Nurse has been progressing well and is currently in stable condition. Nurse, who is in his 11th NHL season, has recorded nine points in 18 games this season, with two goals and seven assists to his name.
The hit by Reaves resulted in Nurse bleeding and forced him to leave the game, not returning for the remainder of the match. Reaves, on the other hand, received a major penalty and a game misconduct for the illegal check to the head. The NHL subsequently suspended Reaves for five games as a consequence of his actions.
Throughout his career with the Oilers, Nurse has accumulated a total of 276 points, including 78 goals and 198 assists, with a plus-69 rating. He was selected by the Oilers as the No. 7 overall pick in the 2013 draft and has since become a key player for the team on the defensive end. We wish Darnell Nurse a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the ice soon.
