Witt Jr. Ties in the 9th and Scores the Winning Run; Royals Comeback from 8 Runs Down to Beat Mariners, 10-9

KANSAS CITY, Missouri, USA (AP) — Bobby Witt Jr. tied the game with a productive triple in the ninth inning and scored on a fielder’s choice by Puerto Rican Nelson Velásquez to give the Kansas City Royals a 10-9 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Friday, after trailing 8-0 in the fourth inning.

After a groundout by Venezuelan Maikel Garcia narrowed the gap to 9-7, Witt hit a triple to the left corner. Velásquez followed with a ground ball for the Royals to secure their third walk-off win of the season. Seattle starting pitcher Bryce Miller exited after allowing a hit to start the inning and walking two batters to load the bases in the sixth inning. He gave up seven runs – his most since June 4th – on six hits, three walks, and one strikeout.

For the Mariners, Dominican Julio Rodriguez went 3-1 with a run scored. Dominican Victor Robles went 3-1 with a run scored and an RBI. For the Royals, Venezuelans Maikel Garcia went 5-0 with an RBI, Salvador Perez went 3-0 with a run scored. Puerto Rican Nelson Velazquez went 4-1 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
