Sweating is a process by which your body regulates its temperature. Everybody sweats, when it is hot outside, when you are engaged in physical activities, when you have a fever, or feel stress and anxiety. But if you sweat profusely without any of these triggers, then it is called Hyperhidrosis.
Type of Hyperhidrosis
Primary Hyperhidrosis (focal)
In this case, you experience excessive sweating on your palms, face, feet, and armpits. Doctors cannot find the cause of primary hyperhidrosis, although the majority of the cases are attributed to hereditary reasons. Certain type of sweat gland known as eccrine is the reason for the excessive sweat.
Some non-surgical solutions for primary hyperhidrosis are –
- OTC Aluminum Antiperspirants
- Anticholinergics medications
- Iontophoresis machine
- Botox injections
Secondary Hyperhidrosis (generalized)
Excessive sweating due to secondary hyperhidrosis occurs all over the body without any focal point. Generally, excessive sweating occurs when you are asleep. Certain medical conditions or side effects of a medicine can cause this disorder.
- Diabetes & Obesity
- Menopause
- Parkinson’s disease
- Gout & Rheumatoid arthritis
- Lymphoma
In the case of secondary hyperhidrosis, we recommend you to consult your doctor and identify the underlying cause. Then you can go for proper treatment to decrease the effects of secondary hyperhidrosis.
