the Main non-staff oncologist of Ministry of health of Russia, academician, doctor of medical Sciences, CEO of SMRC radiology Andrey Kaprin told about the advice of their Western colleagues at the time of the pandemic coronavirus to defer care to cancer patients.

“Patients are not very simple, they are a weakened immunological, and at the same time, throwing them is impossible. When we started to take these patients, then began to talk on Skype with our esteemed foreign colleagues (we’re friends with them – I know the main oncologists Italy, Spain). The basic idea, which was to set aside what cancer care,” says Dr. Kaprin.

“We categorically disagreed with it and thought, well, in the same way as they have no experience, so we have no experience,” says the oncologist. And then the Russian doctors decided to continue helping cancer patients, despite the huge risk.

Dr. Kaprin also reported that on may 30 in Ufa scheduled a special meeting at which he intends to show two slides of recommendations of the European Association for medical Oncology ESMO, which “clearly States that if it is possible to postpone the treatment of cancer patients, you have to put up with.”

“Therefore, despite our friendship and respect for our colleagues abroad, we treat this issue is essential, and we decide to go for the treatment of cancer patients, despite the risks that lie ahead,” said the chief oncologist of Russia.
