Utah Hockey Club recently announced that two of their defensemen, Sean Durzi and John Marino, will be out of the game for quite some time due to their surgeries. Durzi had surgery on his right shoulder and will need four to six months to recover. On the other hand, Marino underwent surgery on his lower back and will be sidelined for three to four months.
Durzi, who is 26 years old, got injured during a game against the New Jersey Devils when he was hit by Jonas Siegenthaler while carrying the puck. Despite only having two assists in four games this season, Durzi was expected to play a significant role in the team, especially since he recently signed a lucrative four-year, $24 million contract.
As for Marino, who is 27 years old, he has yet to make his debut for the team after being acquired from the Devils during the 2024 NHL draft in June. His surgery on the lower back will keep him off the ice for a few months, delaying his much-anticipated debut.
In response to these injuries, the Utah Hockey Club has recalled defenseman Maveric Lamoureux from Tucson of the American Hockey League. Lamoureux, a promising 20-year-old player and a 2022 first-round pick, has shown great potential with two goals and one assist in four games with the Roadrunners. There is a possibility that he could make his NHL debut on Thursday when Utah faces off against the Colorado Avalanche.
The absence of Durzi and Marino will undoubtedly be felt by the team, as both players were expected to play key roles in the defense. However, this unfortunate situation presents an opportunity for Lamoureux to showcase his skills and prove himself at the highest level of competition. Fans of the Utah Hockey Club will be eagerly waiting to see how Lamoureux performs in his potential NHL debut and how the team adjusts to playing without Durzi and Marino in the upcoming games.
