Demi Vollering (SD Worx – Protime) won everything on Sunday, on the third and final day of the Women’s Tour of the Basque Country. The Dutchwoman gave her team a third stage victory after the two of her teammate Mischa Bredewold who was in yellow at the start of the day.

As if that wasn’t enough, the reigning Tour de France champion also won the general classification of the Tour, the points jersey, the best climber jersey and the prize for the best team with her teammates.

Fourth in the stage for a second day in a row, Olivia Baril (Movistar) reached the finish in the chasing group which was 44 seconds behind the winner of the recent Tour of Spain.

The Abitibienne finished in sixth place (59 s) in the final ranking, 7 seconds behind third place obtained by Frenchwoman Juliette Labous (dsm-firmenich PostNL). Mischa Bredewold (34s) is second. Last year at this same race, Baril placed fourth in the general classification.

Florence Normand (Winspace) ranked 74th in the stage, more than 12 minutes behind, and finished in the same position in the general classification.

Vollering attacked solo with 30 kilometers to go. At that point, Baril was already in the red as she explained.

“I was already off the hook and I wasn’t there. I was not in the group behind her, but rather in the second. My team chased back to the first group and we caught up with them with 3 kilometers to go. »

The Quebecer had noted this 115 km stage on her calendar, because she knows this route between Donostia and San Sebastian well, where she lives to train. His goal was to get on the podium in the general classification.

“I’d rather finish on the podium or either win. Any other result is a loss, but my team and I worked really hard and tried everything we could. That’s what it is and there’s nothing we could have done better, other than getting me in better shape,” Baril concluded.
