The US actor James Caan, known from the classic film “The Godfather”, is dead. He died at the age of 82, as his manager announced on Thursday. “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jimmy on the evening of July 6th,” Caan’s family wrote on Twitter. The cause of death was not initially disclosed.
Caan was nominated for an Oscar for his role as the eldest son of a mafia family, Sonny Corleone, in the 1972 film epic directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
Born in 1940 in the Bronx, New York, the actor is also known for films such as “Misery”, “The Loner” and “Rollerball”. In the film “Misery,” based on a Stephen King thriller, he played a writer who falls into the hands of a cruel admirer, portrayed by Kathy Bates.
