Buffalo Sabres GM Reveals Injury Updates Ahead of Training Camp

The Buffalo Sabres are gearing up for the start of training camp, but they’ll be without their starting goalie, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, who is dealing with a lower-body injury. GM Kevyn Adams announced that Luukkonen is listed as day-to-day and will miss the opening of camp due to the injury. While Adams didn’t disclose the exact nature of the injury, he mentioned that Luukkonen has been experiencing pain and having difficulty pushing off on his pads in preparation for camp, which kicks off on Thursday. Medical tests have come back clean, and there’s no talk of surgery for the sixth-year player.

In addition to Luukkonen’s injury, forward Jordan Greenway is set to miss most of training camp after undergoing a second operation to repair a mid-body core injury. The injury initially caused Greenway to miss the final three weeks of last season. Forward Alex Tuch is also dealing with an undisclosed injury, though Adams described it as minor and listed Tuch as day-to-day. Despite the injuries, the Sabres recently signed veteran goalie Alexandar Georgiev to provide experienced depth. Georgiev, who split time between Colorado and San Jose last season, inked a one-year, $825,000 deal and will compete with Alex Lyon for the backup goalie position. Highly touted prospect Devon Levi is expected to continue developing in the minors for another year, according to Adams.

As the Sabres prepare for the upcoming season, Luukkonen’s health remains a top priority. The team is hopeful that he will recover quickly and be ready to take on the starting role once again. With the addition of Georgiev and the continued development of Levi, the Sabres are looking to solidify their goaltending situation for the season ahead. Despite a challenging season last year, the team is optimistic about the future and is focused on making improvements to climb up the standings in the Eastern Conference. Fans will be eagerly watching to see how the team performs as they hit the ice for training camp and beyond.
