Columbus Blue Jackets forward Patrik Laine has received clearance to return to the ice after completing the NHL/NHLPA Players Assistance Program. This news comes after Laine faced a setback in his recovery from a broken clavicle, which he suffered during a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on December 14.
The Blue Jackets’ general manager, Don Waddell, stated that the team is open to exploring all possibilities regarding Laine, who had previously expressed a desire to be traded from Columbus. Since Laine’s last game, there have been changes within the team, with Waddell taking on the role of GM and Dean Evason being appointed as the new coach.
Waddell acknowledged Laine’s wish for a fresh start elsewhere, but also mentioned that returning to Columbus is not entirely off the table. Laine’s agent, Andy Scott, has been in communication with the team to assess all options and find the best fit for the player. However, if a suitable trade agreement cannot be reached, the team will have to adjust to the current situation.
During his time in the NHL, Laine has accumulated an impressive record, with 388 points (204 goals, 184 assists) in 480 regular-season games. His talent was evident during his tenure with the Winnipeg Jets from 2016 to 2021, before joining the Blue Jackets.
Laine’s return to the ice is eagerly anticipated by fans and teammates alike, as they look forward to seeing him back in action and making a significant impact on the team’s performance. It remains to be seen what the future holds for Laine and whether he will continue his career with the Columbus Blue Jackets or seek opportunities elsewhere in the league.
