New York Rangers center Filip Chytil is making a comeback with the team after concerns about a possible concussion. Sources have revealed that Chytil did not suffer a concussion during Thursday’s game against the San Jose Sharks. He will be rejoining the team during their road trip in Calgary, although it remains uncertain if he will play immediately. The Rangers are describing Chytil’s condition as day-to-day due to an upper body injury.
Chytil, who is 25 years old, stayed behind during the Rangers’ recent road trip to see a specialist after the incident. He missed the game against Seattle on Sunday. Fortunately, after a thorough evaluation, it was confirmed that Chytil did not sustain a concussion. This is good news considering his history of head injuries, with multiple documented concussions in the past.
The first-round pick from 2017 had previously missed 72 regular-season games due to a concussion in November 2023. He had to return to his home country, Czechia, for recovery and came back stronger. However, a setback during a morning skate in January led to him being sidelined for the rest of the season. Chytil did make a comeback for the playoffs, showing his resilience.
The recent scare occurred when Chytil collided with his teammate K’Andre Miller during a game at Madison Square Garden. Although he took one more shift after the collision, Chytil didn’t feel right and was later ruled out for the remainder of the game after going back to the locker room.
Chytil has been a key part of the Rangers’ successful line this season, playing alongside Will Cuylle and Kaapo Kakko. Together, they have dominated opponents with an 11-0 goal differential in the 15 games they have played together. This highlights Chytil’s importance to the team and his contribution to their strong performances on the ice.
