A 33-year-old man was found unresponsive in an alley in Plateau-Mont-Royal early Sunday morning. The body bore marks of violence and Montreal police opened an investigation. This is the tenth murder to occur in 2024 in the metropolis.
This was confirmed on Sunday by agent Jean-Pierre Brabant, spokesperson for the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM), adding that the ongoing investigation had been transferred to the Major Crimes Section. of the police force.
It was around 5 a.m. Sunday that a call was made to 911 for immediate assistance. A passerby had just discovered the body of a man in an alley located very close to the intersection of avenues du Parc and du Mont-Royal. He was allegedly beaten to death or physically assaulted.
According to our information, the victim is Vincent Bibeau Olaecha, a homeless person known to police circles. He had several criminal records, most of them in the context of domestic violence.
When the first patrol officers and paramedics arrived, resuscitation maneuvers were attempted, in vain. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. According to agent Jean Pierre-Brabant, “checks then revealed marks of violence” on the victim’s body, which immediately suggested a suspicious death.
No arrests had yet been made as of Sunday. A command post was set up, and a large security perimeter was set up to allow investigators to comb the scene. The police remained on site for a good part of the day on Sunday.
Avenue du Parc was also blocked between Rue Villeneuve and Chemin de la Côte-Sainte-Catherine, while Avenue du Mont-Royal was closed to traffic between Rue Hutchison and Rue Jeanne-Mance. The area should be avoided if possible.
Several potential witnesses should be met by the police, who will go door to door in the surrounding area. Investigators will also view video tapes from surveillance cameras located near the scene, in the neighborhood.
